JMEM Herrnhut

LEBE ERWECKUNG. ERREICHE DIE VERLORENEN. TRANSFORMIERE NATIONEN.

  • 2020 is a big year for us! It’s time for us to step out in faith and renovate the side building. This has been a dream for a long time, but now is when we feel God leading us to move forward on this epic faith journey.

One of our outreach teams had the privilege to serve in a school for special needs children and youth.
These are the thoughts of one of our students about her experience: “During the outreach I’ve been learning that being a missionary is not just about spreading the gospel, feeding the hungry, and being affectionate towards others. Those are important things, and they are needed, but people are desperate for practical help. We need midwives, chiropractors, dentists, trauma counselors, and individuals trained in disability/special needs education.

One of our contacts on this outreach has started a special ed school, where he teaches disabled youth how to bathe, speak, write, and interact with others, while educating the students and their parents both in the beautiful reality of their identity.

There are approximately 400,000 children in Rwanda with special needs. This number does not include the uncharted thousands of adults locked up in their rooms, ostracized from society because their parents believe that they have a demon. They are rarely given an opportunity to bathe. Their meals are pushed to them underneath a door. They have parents and siblings that they don’t know of. They have never interacted with another human being, and they are not considered one.

Change will only come through education. People just don’t know what to do. They need answers and help. They’ve been taught their whole life that a disability is equal to the demonic. I started to think differently about the concept of bringing your career and education to the mission field. This doesn’t always mean full-time, for the rest of your life, living in the bush-bush of Africa kind of missions. This could mean two months of teaching at a school, two weeks of volunteer work at a hospital, or simply donating towards education programs in developing countries.” @_chloe_solomon_

  • The DTS are on outreach sharing the good news that Jesus is alive and He loves people so very much, He wants to encounter people whoever they are wherever they are. Today in South East Asia, one of the teams met this man who had leg pain, they shared about the love of God and his healing power, they prayed for him and he was healed. .
